About Lori:

With the help of my sister, I first started sewing as a child, making very simple dresses for my Barbie Doll from felt squares. I progressed to making my own clothes in High School and finally learned to quilt in 1981.

My first quilting class was at a little store in Webster Groves, MO where I learned traditional hand piecing and hand quilting. I also learned that a quilt “should never have more than 4 different fabrics and muslin” (a rule I quickly learned to ignore).  Soon after, I discovered rotary cutters and quilting techniques using the sewing machine – I was hooked and have been quilting ever since.

I primarily do machine piecing on one of my trusty Bernina’s. I usually have my quilts quilted by longarmers but I am now working on quilting some of my own here at Over the Top Quilting Studio.

I belong to a quilting group where we have two block exchanges per year. These push me to try patterns or fabrics that I might not normally choose. I really enjoy taking these blocks and creating my own quilts. For several years, I owned and operated the Stitching Studio in NW Austin which allowed me to spread my love of quilting to others.  I have made over 200 quilts since 1981, many for the Linus Connection and other non-profits. I also love to enter quilts in local shows where I have won several ribbons and even had one quilt appear in a national quilting magazine.

I fear this is an obsession for which there is no known cure …
