We want you to experience longarm quilting and all the capability of our APQS longarm machines. Classes are for everyone, from beginners through experienced longarm quilters. Click on a class title to see more detail. Our class schedule is on our calendar. Brief descriptions are below – book a class directly or learn more about each class.

Classes are held at either our main studio on Buttercup Creek in Cedar Park, Texas or right next door at our “Studio 110”.

Classes refund policy: In most cases, the full price of the class can be refunded as an OTTQ gift card until 2 days before the class. No refund is available within 2 days of the class. Please see the individual class registration page for further information.

One-on-One Rental Certification: This 3 hour private class prepares you to rent independent time on one of our APQS longarm machines. The class includes an hour of detailed instructions. During hours 2 and 3, you learn simple all-over designs, straight line creation, and problem management. Class is held at our main studio. Beginning T-shirt Quilt Construction: Want to learn how to turn those drawers full of t-shirts you no longer wear into a loving keepsake? We can teach you how! Our instructor is Laura Holst. Class is 3 hours on either:
– January 13, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, or
– January 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The Farmer’s Wife 1930’s is a paper-pieced block of the month series of classes. Come enhance your paper-piecing skills and make a beautiful quilt sure to earn Oohs and Aahs in this 12-month long class. Without borders or sashing, the quilt is approximately 78″ x 95”. Classes will be on the second Friday of the month, beginning September 13, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Our instructor is Kathleen Bassi. 8 students maximum, 3 students minimum. Random Design T-shirt Quilt Construction: Learn to make an even better t-shirt quilt. In this class, you’ll learn the “random” design, and techniques to use as many parts and logos of a t-shirt as possible. Our instructor is Laura Holst. Class is 3 hours on either:

Sketch to Stitch 3-day class with Irene Roderick: We will begin by exploring several techniques for making drawings. We will make line drawings using crayons and markers. You will choose your favorite drawing and make it into a large quilt! Learn methods for transferring a drawing to your design wall and various construction techniques to best capture the essence of your original sketch.

Basic Quilting Camp for Kids: Your kids can learn or improve their quilting skills this Summer! In this 16 hour boot camp, spread over 4 consecutive days, students create a lap size quilt top. Batting – What’s Inside Matters: This 90 minute presentation teaches quilters and professional long-armers everything they need to know about choosing batting, including the various fiber types; pros and (potential) cons of each type; tips and tricks for best results; a bit of fun & giveaways!

Binding and Finishing Quilts with Colette Wilson: Once the piecing is done and the quilt is quilted, what’s next? Why the binding of course! Class is 3 hours. Class is held in Studio 110. “Dancing With The Wall” – Quick-step: Using only two contrasting colors, learn how to construct the individual components used to make an improv Irene-style quilt. “Dancing With The Wall” – Workshop: Let go of your inhibitions! Tap into your creativity! Featherweight Maintenance (Singer Model 221): David Eaton from “So Old Sew New” will teach you skills, tips, and insider tricks to keep that Singer Featherweight in excellent running condition for frustration free sewing and quilting. The class will focus on Singer 221/222 Featherweight.  However, once you learn the basics you will be able to service your other Vintage Sewing Machines (non-electronics). Class is 3 hours in Studio 110, next door to our main Studio.

Quilt Path

Introduction to Quilt Path: This 3 hour class teaches you the basics of Quilt Path, the computerized quilting system for APQS machines. Class is held at our main studio. Kid’s Piecing Boot Camp – 3 day class: In this 3 day boot camp students will create a lap size quilt top.  They will learn basic sewing skills and how to put the top together.  All fabric and threads are included in the class. Let’s Make A Quilt: Did you ever want to learn how to make a quilt? We’re excited that we now have a beginner friendly class in which you will create a 42”X 42” baby or lap quilt top. (Note: We will not quilt or bind your quilt top in this series of classes. We will explain options for quilting the quilt top.) Class is 3 hours in Studio 110. “More Than Meandering” Advanced Longarm: This 3 hour class is a follow-on to the APQS Beginner’s Class. It is an introduction to custom quilting and extends your skills. New APQS Longarm Owners Class: This 5 hour class is filled with hints and tips on how to make your quilting experience as successful as possible. Class is 5 hours, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with a break for lunch. Paper Piecing at Over The Top Quilting Studio with the “Paradox Point” pattern: Learn a paper piecing approach that using vellum, or translucent paper, so that you can see what you are doing. Star Storm or Star Storm Mini – your choice: “Star Storm” (80″ x 80″) and “Star Storm Mini” (40″ x 40″) are fun quilts that go together fairly quickly.  In five 4-hour sessions, you should have a new quilt top that is a star: either the 40 x 40 or the 80 x 80.
