This hard-to-pronounce but lovely modern design is a perfect next level project in your foundation paper piecing adventures! The class is July 20 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at our Studio. Book now.
The project and class are a more challenging level. We recommend that you’ve taken one of our introductory paper piecing classes, or you are already comfortable with the basics of foundation paper piecing techniques on your own. If you’re not sure if you’re ready, contact our teacher, Niku Arbabi, via e-mail to discuss.
Our icosahedron pattern is by Jessee Maloney (Art School Dropout). You can order the pattern here. For color and print combination ideas, check out “spinning icosahedron quilt” on the web.
Your teacher is Niku Arbabi. Niku has been sewing for as long as she can remember. She’s taught sewing of all kinds full time at the Stitch Lab since 2009, and is excited to branch out into different parts of Central Texas. Niku loves all aspects of quilting; the variety and adventure, the inspiration and support of the quilting community, and sharing her sewing experiences and experiments. She is a proud member of the Austin Modern Quilt Guild.
You can follow Niku’s sewing projects, and her trusty cat helper, at @xostitches on Instagram and find more events and workshops at xostitches.net. Book now.
Supplies and preparation: The tools and supplies are available at our studio. Fabric purchased for class at Sew Crazy right down the street receives a 10% discount when it’s purchased for class – just let them know. They have lots of precut fat quarters which are perfect for these projects. Preparation is also required.
Supplies:
♦ Woven quilting cotton fabric
– 10 different colors for the main shape, if you want all different colors or prints. When choosing scraps or small pieces, keep in mind we will be using a very generous extra margin around all pieces, up to 1″ all the way around, so make sure all of your pieces are extra generously portioned to prevent stress!
– 1/4 yard for background fabric
♦ Purchase and download the pattern here
Preparation:
♦ Print pattern onto regular printer paper. Cheap, generic printer paper is best because it will be lighter weight and easier to remove after sewing.
♦ Print 3 copies of the pattern (just the pattern, extra copies of the instructions aren’t necessary)
♦ Cut out the pieces of one pattern, right on the lines. Save in an envelope or ziploc baggie.
♦ Bring two copies of the pattern uncut.
