About Libby:

My name is Libby Barnett and sewing has been my passion since I was a small child. I made most of my dresses and those full petticoats in junior and high school. After marriage and children. I started sewing for my daughter and sons and continued sewing. for myself. Some of my fondest memories are sewing for my daughter and making one of a kind outfits for her.

As a child, I lived next door to a professional seamstress, and we formed a bond over the love of sewing. I learned many of my skills by spending hours watching her make bound buttonholes or putting in zippers. She was a wonderful teacher and never minded me watching over her shoulder or asking many questions After that, it was sewing classes all the way through high school and college. By the time I was in high school, my mother always saw to it that I had wonderful woolens, cottons, and silks to make my clothes. We did most of our fabric shopping in downtown Dallas at a wonderful store: A. Harris. I never had a readymade outfit until I went off to college. I never learned to cook as I was glued to the sewing machine.

Years Later…

My husband and I moved to Round Rock in 2005. In 2008 a friend of mine, Jo Bergeron, and I help organize a quilting group at Round Rock Presbyterian Church. Our group is named “Ladies in Stitches” and we make most of our quilts for Linus unless we are on a personal project. To date our group has made over 1,200 quilts for Linus. Most of my quilts are appliqued and have characters that have been enlarged.to fit what is in mind.

Last year my daughter asked me to make baby quilts for my three grandsons’ babies in the future. These four quilts have all have been Labors of Love.

I named the first quilt, ” the Baby Aliens” and it is my own design. I googled “baby aliens” and most of the images started out less than one inch in size. I kept enlarging them until I had them the size I needed for the quilt. The second quilt pattern is named “The Planetary Party” by Amy Bradley. I used some of the characters in this group and enlarged them to make the quilt the size I needed. I love this quilt!!!

The third in the group is “The Truck Quilt” by Amy Bradley. I did enlarge the truck patterns some. The fourth in the group is “The Alphabet Quilt” and it is my own design.

A special thanks to Over the Top Quilting for the beautiful quilting job on each of these gifts.

Now it is time to start quilting for Linus again!!
