Over The Top Quilting regularly displays an artist’s work at our Studio. Karin Wolff is our current featured Artist. We are privileged to have Karin’s works at the Studio. Here’s Karin’s story.

Growing up, my grandmother was an avid sewer. My mother was not much of a sewer, but she could patch stockings like no other! I started sewing in high school (we called that secondary school in Australia). My mother then made me use my newfound skill to patch up my school uniforms! When I had my daughter, one of my favorite things was making matching outfits for us! I am not so sure she enjoyed it as much as I did. I have continued to enjoy all types of arts and crafts throughout my life, but quilting is my current passion. I found my love for quilting when I attended a quilting retreat in 2003. I went to Amish country in Berlin, Ohio, to learn from the best – I was hooked after that!

After my husband and I moved to Holland, I started quilting using Singer featherweight machines. It is always a great joy of mine to find a featherweight in an antique store or yard sale! All of my quilts on display today were sewn using one of my featherweights.

Recently we moved to Texas while our daughter attends law school. I have enjoyed flexing my creativity with some Texas-themed quilts. She inspired my longhorn quilt! She also inspired my recent half marathon, but that is a story for another day. As an Australian, I felt compelled to make my reproduction of the Rajah Quilt on display here. The Rajah Quilt was made by British convicts on their way to Australia as a gift in hopes of clemency when they arrived in 1841. I also enjoy quilting non-quilts, such as the jackets on display. You can even color-coordinate your jacket to your car! It is incredible how versatile the craft can be. Thanks to Over the Top Quilting Studio, I can now sew my quilts and jackets from start to finish!
